A Covering That Will Last
I had found a treasure of a piece of the past... They were old country covered bridges painted red with tin roofs, some with windows that looked as though they had been slit open like a lid on a can of beans. These covered bridges spoke of the past and I began to think of the many people who crossed over the creeks that ran below them. |

| Many of these bridges dated back to the early 1800’s when families needed to cross the streams that flowed throughout the land. The roof and walls gave shelter from the snow and provided a safe passage without the bridge collapsing. Horses were given a sense of security as they crossed streams and rivers thinking they were on a solid foundation. The walls would hide the swift moving waters that rippled over jagged rocks below. A false security had been made. A platform of old boards and rusty nails supported the weight of horses and wagons while all along under those feet and wheels there was nothing but air. A vapor that stood between that wooden floor and the rapid waters that flowed beneath.
Now when I see a covered bridge I see more than the past, I see my future which has been made secure in Christ the solid rock on which I stand and His blood which has washed away my sins. As we trust Him to be our Savior and Lord, we will find true security in an everlasting peace and knowing that although rust and moth may destroy earthly possessions, His blood guarantees us a safe bridge crossing to eternal life in Him. Are you willing to cross His bridge when you come to it? He is waiting with open arms right at the entrance and no matter what trials you are trying to cross, let Jesus be that covered bridge, His covering will last for eternity and His grace is sufficient to carry you to the other side.
