     Santa Lost His Hat

It was a cold rainy day as my husband Phillip and I headed towards Cambria, California on our annual December wintry getaway. It was cold and rainy and our windshield wipers were set at full speed slapping the rain from our windshield, when something on the road caught my attention.

There in the middle of highway 101, as cars were blazing by, I saw a red and white Santa hat laying flat on the road. Poor Santa had just lost his hat and it was dirty, smashed, and wet. Tire marks were tattooed on it as passersby had flattened it to the ground. The white fur looked like a dead possum and the white ball was like a squashed marshmallow. This was truly an undesirable sight leaving a lasting impression.

But as it lay there wet and full of mud I thought of Christmas. How two thousand years ago Jesus Christ was born in a stable and brought salvation to mankind. Since then we have been celebrating Christmas. Some people are putting their trust in Jesus Christ and others in Santa Claus.

As that red and white furry hat lay smashed on the highway I chuckled thinking, “Santa lost his hat, and Jesus Christ will never lose His crown.” So my question to you is who are you putting your trust in? Is it Santa or is it Jesus Christ who is the real reason in which we celebrate Christmas?

With the tinsel, glitter and the business of this season we can soon lose the real true meaning of Christmas. Let us reflect on Jesus Christ who, although He came as a baby on that first Christmas Eve, we are now celebrating Him as the King of kings and Lord of lords.

You will never find this King’s crown tarnished or broken. It will not have jewels missing or laying dirty on the ground. It will never be used as a form of power to misuse His Lordship. But He who is worthy to be our High Priest and King wears it with love and compassion.

This season lets put things in perspective. Don’t look for one who lost his hat on a rainy highway but look for the one who has worn the crown of a King and will for all eternity.

We can truly put our trust in the one who wears the crown that will never tarnish or rust because He is not only the one who wears it…but also the one who made it.
