Autumn
is one of my favorite times of year. As my husband Phillip and I drove
through Door County Wisconsin, I experienced one of the most spectacular
and amazing places I had ever seen. I saw magnificent foliage dressed
in an autumn array of splendor. Crimson, orange, and yellow leaves
were dotted with splashes of red as the branches of the trees swayed
in the calm breeze of autumn. It was as if God held paint brush in
His hands to strike the canvas of this earth to bring color across
our path. Yet, we know that at creation God spoke all of what beauty
we have with His creative words which are still producing life today.
My
eyes were filled with tears as I gave God thanks for allowing me to
see such beauty and
to
be in Door County during harvest time was a special blessing indeed.
Apples trees were
ready for harvest, wooden crates filled with apples soon to be made
into hot, spicy apple pies. Fields were lined with corn stalks which
had brought a bounty of corn to the farmers. Cattle grazed on the
tall green grasses and fishermen pulled 20 pound salmon from the shores
of Lake Michigan.
What
abundant life our Lord has given us, His handiwork is no further than
what our eyes can take in. Because all around us displays His abundant
love and provision, but thankfulness is only in the hearts of those
who find it.
In
the autumn trees I saw such a splendor of color which reminded me
of God’s most awesome creation…Mankind. We are diverse,
distinguished by the color of our skin and even nationality. We may
have different personalities with likes and dislikes yet we are all
unique because that is how God has created us. The Bible tells us
that God formed us even while we were in our mother’s womb.
(Psalms 139:13-16).
We
are unique individuals because Father God has given us life. Although
we may be different we have all been created by the one who brought
everything into existence, and we have been blessed with different
talents and gifts to make a unique difference in this world. Leaves
may fall to the ground each autumn season, but what we accomplish
for our Lord will be everlasting.
As
my husband and I had breakfast one crisp morning in the small town
of Bailey’s Harbor,
Wisconsin we engaged in conversation with our waitress. Soon we found
out that she was a single mom and was searching for God and wanted
to raise her children with good morals. We had the opportunity to
pray with her and she opened her heart to Jesus Christ, only God can
touch hearts that respond to His love. Just yesterday I received a
letter from a sweet 82 year old man who is called by the locals, “Papa
John.” My husband and I engaged in conversation as Papa John
was fishing and landed a 16 pound Salmon. Phillip helped net the fish
and Papa John grinned with a big smile as he saw his prize possession.
After returning home, we received a letter from Papa John telling
us how he was glad to have met us and enclosed a picture of the church
he attends. Proudly he said the small church was established in May
of 2003 and seated 40-50 people and sent us the photo because he wanted
to share how glad the congregation is to have a place of worship.
All
of us have people to touch... It can be a waitress, a fisherman, a
doctor, a neighbor or even a family member. Whoever God has sent into
your life to touch with His everlasting love, you will be the hands
and feet of Jesus to those in need of a Savior.
Tree
leaves may come and go and even in time fall to the ground. But what
we do for Christ will always remain. Will you allow Him to use you?
You can do what no autumn leaf can. People are waiting, and so is
God.
